 Gallery 1026 - La Grave and la Meije, Hautes-Alps - Part 1

The area surrounding La Meije (3441m.), one of the highest peaks in the Ecrins National Park, is noted for its unique architecture with its small villages scattered across the steep mountain slopes. Less popoular with tourists than many parts of France, the scenery is often spectacular with many mountains having extensive grass slopes. Despite a summertime visit, there was often plenty of cloud, which made photography a frustrating exercise. The main road through the area, the RN91 from Grenoble to Briançon, is a wonderful drive although it must be stressed that the images contained in this essay were taken from a lengthy walk from the village of Villar d'Arêne.
