Gallery 1034 - Provence's Colorado, near Rustrel, Luberon, Vaucluse

The unexpected rock formations near the village of Ristrel in the Luberon can only be descrbed as amazing. Their vibrant colour and interesting shapes add immensely to their attraction. Managed footpaths enable visitors to get up close and enjoy the range of colours where ochre was mined from the 1880s until 1992. On a sunny day the colours are strong and vibrant whilst after rain they become more subdued but deeper.
