Gallery 1043 - Steam in Pakistan - metre gauge from Mirpur Khas

The metre gauge railways that radiated from Mirpur Khas in south-east Pakistan were once part of an extensive network. After partition in 1948 this network became isolated from the metre gauge over the border in India. All traffic was steam hauled and some of the lines saw intensive passenger srvices. The images in this set feature a chartered special train from Mirpur Khas to Nawabshah. The loco is SP class 4-6-0 no.141 which was of a typical design for metre-gauge railways in the Indian subcontinent.
